The Fluidline cane unloading grab is a hydraulically actuated tine grab designed for the single purpose of picking cane bundles from truck beds and trailers at Indian sugar mills. Unlike general-purpose grabs adapted for cane handling, the Fluidline unit is designed from the outset for cane: the opening width, tine count, tine spacing and closing geometry are all determined by the dimensions of the trucks and trailers that bring cane to the mill.

Each grab handles bundles of 3 MT to 5 MT. The tines — 4 or 6 per grab — are fabricated from high-tensile steel plate and heat-treated at the tip for wear resistance against the abrasive soil and stones that come in with harvested cane. The hydraulic cylinder is a Fluidline-manufactured unit with chrome-plated rod and low-friction seals, rated for continuous-duty cycling through the length of the crushing season.

The grab is designed as part of a complete system. When specified with a Fluidline bridge unloader, the hydraulic supply, pressure and flow are matched at the design stage so that the grab opens and closes at the rate required by the unloading cycle, without overloading the power pack or creating back-pressure spikes that damage seals. The grab can also be retrofitted to existing cranes provided the hydraulic supply and rated capacity are confirmed.

03 · Features

Engineered for
cane handling.

Feature 01

Truck-geometry Sizing

Opening width and tine spread are set against the actual truck dimensions at the customer's mill — not a generic standard — ensuring reliable bundle capture on every cycle.

Feature 02

Heat-treated Tines

Tine tips are heat-treated to resist abrasive wear from soil, stones and fibrous cane. Long tine life means fewer shutdowns for replacement during the crushing season.

Feature 03

In-house Hydraulic Cylinder

The actuation cylinder is manufactured by Fluidline — same process, same quality standards as all our cylinders. Chrome rod, honed bore, continuous-duty seals.

Feature 04

System Integration

Hydraulic flow, pressure and cycle timing are matched to the bridge unloader or EOT crane at the design stage. The grab and the crane are a system, not separate purchases.

06 · Why Fluidline

Why specify
Fluidline.

Reason 01

Sugar Mill Expertise

Sugar mill cane unloading is one of our core application areas. We understand the truck fleets, the cycle rates, the crushing season pressures and the maintenance realities of a busy mill yard.

Reason 02

Matched System Design

We design the grab and the crane together. Hydraulic system, structural capacity and duty rating are aligned — the complete system is tested before it reaches your yard.

Reason 03

Season-ready Support

Tines, cylinders and seals are stocked at Kundli. When a crushing season starts, downtime is not acceptable — we have the spares and the field team to keep your grab running.

07 · FAQ

Frequently asked
questions.

What bundle size does a Fluidline cane unloading grab handle?
Fluidline cane unloading grabs are designed for cane bundles of 3 MT to 5 MT, which corresponds to the typical load per truck or trailer at Indian sugar mills. Grab opening width and tine geometry are matched to the standard truck widths used at the customer's yard.
How many tines does the cane grab have?
Standard configurations use 4 or 6 tines. The number and spacing of tines is determined by the cane bundle dimensions and the truck loading pattern at the specific mill. Tines are fabricated from high-tensile steel and heat-treated for wear resistance at the tips.
Is the grab hydraulic or mechanical?
All Fluidline cane unloading grabs use hydraulic actuation. The hydraulic cylinder opens and closes the tines. The hydraulic supply can come from a dedicated power pack on the bridge unloader, or from the trolley's integrated power pack depending on the system configuration.
Which cranes or unloaders can the cane grab be fitted to?
The cane unloading grab is designed to be fitted to Fluidline bridge unloaders as a matched system. It can also be specified for EOT cranes and other overhead hoists, provided the crane capacity and hydraulic supply are matched to the grab's operating requirements.
Can the grab be sized for different truck geometries?
Yes. Each grab is engineered to the truck and trailer dimensions used at the customer's mill. Opening width, tine spread, closing force and approach geometry are all confirmed against the vehicle dimensions before manufacture begins.
What maintenance does a cane unloading grab require?
Routine maintenance covers hydraulic cylinder seal inspection, tine wear measurement, pivot pin lubrication and hydraulic hose inspection. The robust design and heat-treated tines are intended to minimise maintenance intervals during the crushing season.
