01 · Overview

Power transmission
components built
for heavy industry.

Gear couplings and brakedrums are critical components in the drive trains of EOT cranes, hoists, conveyors and heavy industrial machinery. They transmit torque reliably under misalignment, absorb shock loads, and — in the case of brakedrums — provide the braking surface that holds loaded cranes safely in position between lifts.

Because Fluidline designs and builds EOT cranes and hydraulic equipment, we manufacture couplings and brakedrums to the same standards we specify in our own products. When we supply a coupling or brakedrum, it has been selected for the torque rating, shaft diameter, speed and duty class of the actual application — not sized to a generic standard that may leave no margin for shock loads or duty cycle.

We manufacture gear couplings, flexible couplings and brakedrums in-house at our Kundli facility using close-grained cast iron (IS 210 FG 260) and forged steel (IS 2062). All components are dimensionally inspected and supplied with material test certificates. Custom sizes, non-standard bore configurations and replacement parts for legacy installations are available on enquiry.

05 · Why Fluidline

Manufactured
in-house, certified
to Indian standards.

Advantage 01

In-House Manufacturing

We machine couplings and brakedrums at our Kundli facility on the same CNC turning centres used for hydraulic cylinder components. Tight tolerances, traceable materials and dimensional inspection for every batch.

Advantage 02

IS 3177 Compliance

Brakedrums and couplings for EOT crane applications are designed and certified to IS 3177. We supply the documentation — material certificates, hardness reports, dimensional records — that your QC department and customers require.

Advantage 03

Custom & Legacy Sizes

Standard sizes from stock, non-standard sizes to drawing, and reverse-engineered replacements for legacy equipment. We work from samples, worn parts and partial drawings when full technical data is not available.

06 · FAQ

Common
questions.

When should I choose a gear coupling over a flexible jaw coupling?
Gear couplings are preferred for high-torque, high-speed applications where shaft misalignment is present — they tolerate angular, parallel and axial misalignment simultaneously, and are standard on EOT crane hoist and travel drives per IS 3177. Flexible jaw couplings are suited to lighter-duty applications where vibration damping is required, torque loads are lower, and precise alignment is maintained. For crane and heavy industrial drives we consistently specify gear couplings.
What is the maximum torque rating for your gear couplings?
Our gear couplings are manufactured in standard sizes from 100 mm to 500 mm bore diameter, with torque ratings from approximately 500 Nm to over 120,000 Nm depending on size and material. For very high torque applications we manufacture to custom specifications. Share your required torque, shaft diameter, shaft speed and duty cycle and we will recommend the correct coupling size and type.
What standards apply to brakedrums for EOT cranes?
Brakedrums for EOT cranes in India are designed to IS 3177 (Code of Practice for EOT Cranes) and IS 3832 standards. The brakedrum diameter and braking torque must be selected to provide the deceleration specified for the crane duty class (M1–M8). Fluidline manufactures brakedrums to these standards and can provide material test certificates and dimensional inspection records for each unit.
What is the lead time for custom coupling or brakedrum sizes?
Standard sizes up to 300 mm are often held in semi-finished stock and can be completed within 2–3 weeks. Non-standard sizes and large brakedrums (above 500 mm) are manufactured to order with typical lead times of 3–5 weeks from drawing approval. Complex assemblies with integral brake drum and coupling hub are 4–6 weeks. We provide a drawing for approval before machining commences.
Do you supply spare coupling sleeves and tooth elements for existing installations?
Yes. Replacement gear coupling sleeves, outer flanges and nylon/polyurethane elements for flexible couplings are available. Share the coupling size, existing manufacturer name (if known) and shaft dimensions and we will supply a compatible spare. We can also reverse-engineer replacement parts from a worn sample or drawing.
What materials do you use for brakedrums?
Standard brakedrums are manufactured from close-grained cast iron (IS 210 Grade FG 260) which provides the correct hardness, wear resistance and coefficient of friction for brake shoe operation. For high-duty or high-speed applications we manufacture in forged steel (IS 2062 or EN 8 equivalent). Braking surface hardness is maintained at 180–220 BHN for cast iron and 200–250 BHN for forged steel types.
