Hydraulic motors convert fluid power into continuous rotary mechanical output. They are the preferred drive for applications requiring high starting torque, compact installation envelope, variable speed from near-zero to maximum, and robust performance in harsh industrial environments — all conditions where electric motors struggle or are impractical.

Because Fluidline builds hydraulic systems — cranes, unloaders, power packs — we specify and supply motors with genuine application context. A crane slewing ring drive has very different requirements from a conveyor winch or a mill roll drive. We match motor type, displacement, pressure rating and shaft configuration to what the system actually demands.

We supply gear motors, vane motors, axial piston motors and radial piston (low-speed high-torque) motors from Parker, Eaton (including Char-Lynn orbit motors), Danfoss (White Drive) and Bonfiglioli. Motor-gearbox combinations and brake-equipped units are available on request.

questions.

Can hydraulic motors be supplied with integrated brakes?
Yes. Spring-applied, hydraulically-released holding brakes can be integrated directly onto the motor shaft — essential for crane hoist, winch and inclined conveyor applications where the load must be held in position when the motor is de-energised. We specify brake torque to exceed the maximum load torque with appropriate safety margin per IS/FEM standards.
Can hydraulic motors be paired with gearboxes or speed reducers?
Yes — in fact most crane and conveyor drive applications use a hydraulic motor combined with a planetary or helical gearbox to achieve the required output shaft speed and torque. Bonfiglioli and other manufacturers supply motor-gearbox combinations as integrated units. We can specify and supply both components matched to your required output torque, speed and mounting envelope.
What is the difference between continuous and intermittent duty ratings?
A motor's continuous rating is the torque and speed it can sustain indefinitely without exceeding thermal limits. Intermittent ratings permit higher torque and speed for defined short periods — typically expressed as a percentage on-time (e.g. S3 25% duty). Crane hoist and winch applications typically operate on intermittent duty, which allows a smaller, lighter motor. We specify the correct duty class based on your cycle time and load profile.
What is a typical overall efficiency for a hydraulic motor?
Overall efficiency (mechanical × volumetric) for hydraulic motors typically ranges from 80–88% for gear motors, 85–90% for vane motors, and 88–94% for piston motors at rated speed and pressure. Radial piston motors (low-speed, high-torque type) achieve 90–95% at low speeds due to their direct-drive design. Efficiency drops at very low speeds and very high speeds — we account for this in system power calculations.
Do you hold stock or are motors supplied to order?
Common gear motor sizes from Parker and Eaton are held in stock at our Kundli facility and can ship within 3–5 working days. Vane motors, piston motors and radial piston motors are generally sourced to order with lead times of 3–6 weeks depending on brand and specification. Call our sales team for current stock availability on your required model.
Can you supply hydraulic motors for custom or non-standard speed requirements?
Yes. We can match a hydraulic motor to your target output shaft speed using displacement selection, gearbox ratio, or a combination. For very low speed, high torque requirements — common in winch and slewing ring drives — we specify radial piston motors (Danfoss White Drive, Eaton Char-Lynn) which can operate directly at 5–200 rpm without additional reduction.
