The heart of
every hydraulic
power pack.

The hydraulic pump converts mechanical power into fluid power. Every other component in the circuit — valves, actuators, motors — depends on the pump delivering the right flow at the right pressure, reliably, over the service life of the installation. Undersizing causes cavitation and overheating. Oversizing wastes energy and increases heat load. Selecting the wrong pump type for the duty cycle causes premature failure.

Because Fluidline engineers design and build complete hydraulic power packs — and commission them at customer sites — we approach pump supply with real application knowledge. We specify displacement, pressure rating, mounting standard and shaft configuration based on what the system actually requires, not what is easiest to stock.

We supply gear pumps, vane pumps and axial piston pumps (fixed and variable displacement) from Parker Hannifin, Eaton, Danfoss and Bonfiglioli. Service kits, shaft seals and replacement units are available for all brands we supply.

questions.

What is the difference between a gear pump and a piston pump — which suits my application?
Gear pumps are fixed-displacement, robust, low-cost and easy to maintain — ideal for general hydraulic power packs, presses and systems with moderate pressure requirements up to around 250 bar. Piston pumps (axial and radial) are higher efficiency, capable of variable displacement, and rated for higher pressures up to 350 bar — suited to demanding applications such as cranes, high-cycle machines, and energy-sensitive installations. We recommend piston pumps when you need variable flow, higher efficiency or pressures above 250 bar.
Do you supply variable displacement hydraulic pumps?
Yes. We supply variable displacement axial piston pumps from Parker and Eaton, including load-sensing variants that match pump output to actual circuit demand. Variable displacement pumps significantly reduce heat generation and energy consumption compared to fixed-displacement pumps with throttle-type flow control.
How often do hydraulic pumps need service kits or replacement?
Service interval depends heavily on system cleanliness and operating conditions. In a well-maintained system with ISO 4406 target cleanliness of 17/15/12, a gear pump can run for 10,000+ hours before requiring attention. Piston pumps typically require inspection and seal replacement at 8,000–12,000 hours. We stock service kits for the brands we supply and can advise on interval schedules for your specific application.
What pressure rating do I need for my hydraulic system?
The pump pressure rating must exceed the highest working pressure in the circuit, with margin for pressure spikes. Typical industrial hydraulic systems operate at 150–210 bar. Crane hoist and heavy cylinder systems commonly require 250–310 bar. We always recommend selecting a pump rated at least 15–20% above maximum working pressure. Share your system schematic or describe the application and we will specify the correct rating.
Can you specify the entire power pack including pump, motor and tank?
Yes — complete power pack specification and supply is a core part of what Fluidline does. We design and build hydraulic power packs in-house, selecting pump, prime mover, reservoir, filtration, valves and instrumentation to match your circuit requirements. We can supply as a loose kit or as a fully assembled and tested unit.
